You answered your own question...this is why you have a temporary ban.

I do not think a-net should have to take the time to provide proof to the spammers...if they are honest with themselves they will know why they were banned. If the op could find his way here to complain about getting a temporary ban then how can he say he had no clue this could happen? It is all over the forums and on the front page here at guru.

I did notice a lot more people using the trade channel over the weekend, so the word did get out. It sure made the few that spammed all chat stand out but there were plenty of people to politely remind them to use the trade and refer them to the wiki. There are still some that fell right back to the old habit and are abusive to others if it is suggested they use the trade chat as a-net is banning. Lion's Arch is a prime example of that today...

I also read that Gaile doesn't need us to report and "help" them catch spammers. They have resources at their disposal to see who is spamming. If it takes a day to catch up with someone then so be it...

I do agree that a message on the log in screen would inform the rest of the players that do not read forums, read the updates or the Gaile News. I do not believe that will prevent people from being "shocked" that their accounts were banned and claiming they did nothing to deserve it.

Thank you A-Net for following through with this!

You guys make a great point, and we'll add a message about this to the game as soon as we can get it localized. As mentioned, it's not a change in "the rules of the game," but rather a change in the way that the Support team deals with it. I agree with you that making the effort to inform players that spamming is being reviewed and, possibly, actioned is a good idea.

Thank You Gaile,

But Anet also needs to increase the limit on the ignore list if your standard response to spam tickets is this:

Hello,

Thanks for getting in touch with us regarding the issue of chat spamming.

We understand that there may be times that players post a repetitive message in the chat channel when selling items, recruiting for guilds or missions or simply to be an annoyance. When this happens and you do not wish to view that player's chat you can use the "ignore" option. This option is located under the "Friends" list button. To get to the "Friends" list you can use the "Menu" tab or simply hit the "N" key. Add the name of the player whose chat you wish to block onto the "Ignored" list and you will be able to continue playing without seeing messages from that player again.

If you have any additional questions please let us know.

Regards,
The Guild Wars Support Team
fast response (less than an hour) but how am I supposed to ignore people if my ignore list is full?

now that they are enforcing it...I'm reporting it...

yes I submitted a ticket on this person...

what I don't get is the people who believe they need to spam things multiple times despite the fact that there isn't enough activity to warrant it...(the ONLY place I ever consider it to be busy enough to warrant it is Lion's Arch District 1...but even then...it's still spamming and I try to avoid those busy as hell districts)

hope more people get banned so they'll learn their lesson...you have no one to blame but yourself...the community is not on your side...so stop the spamming.

and yes Anet should put a note about spam on the login screen...like was said...not everyone visits the forums...put them on notice and people will learn more quickly.

Image switched to url link due to size.

you could....either ignore the people, or take some people off of your ignore list? Honestly, if your ignore list is full, half of the people probably don't even play anymore, and even if they do, what are the chances of you encountering them again?

I sure understand about the Friends List and the Ignore function. I've heard the suggestion before, but I'm told that we cannot expand the numbers in the current iteration.

I will pass this along as a suggestion for Guild Wars 2, and I'm sure if it becomes possible in Guild Wars, it'll be considered as a possible addition.

This happened just over an hour ago after I started reading this thread...it's not you as far as I know...when you mentioned LB/SS I went there looking to see if anyone was using the party search window and for people spamming chat...sure enough I found someone spamming trade chat in all chat and the party search was empty

as for the ignore list...what happens when I find more than 10 people I want to ignore in a short amount of time...I'm out of luck...I won't be able to ignore them all...that's why the limit should be raised. Store it on our computers for all I care...have the ignore feature handled completely on our computers...should be too big of a hit...it's just annoying when you do go to ignore someone and you have to remove someone else you don't want to have anything to do with just so you can ignore the most recent annoyance.
I can see finding 10 people I want to ignore in a small amount of time...a limit more like 50 or so would be better...because chances are we won't find that many people to ignore. My preference would that it be limited only by the size of our hard drive...ie the names are stored locally and the list can be as big as the free space on your hard drive.

edit: not possible...ok guess I'll have to deal with it...it's annoying but I can deal...please make sure that gets on the to do list for GW2....thanks

I'm glad they're doing something about it. Maybe now the people who say "It's the only way to get things sold" will learn that, in fact, it is not.

I warned couple of people that I saw spamming after A-Net announced that they were cracking down. The replies I got went anywhere from "good to know" to "STFU you stupid n00b, A-Net won't/can't do s***." (among other colorful comments.) I just smiled to myself and said "You've been warned."

I've never had a problem selling things in trade chat, even using the "Drunkard Timer" (every time I add a minute to my title, I post my WTS message). I also use the Party search function to sell things. While it may not be the greatest for selling generic weapons, there's plenty of space to type "S: Elemental sword - PM for info" or "B: The Yakslapper, 5K"

Why not just do "Trade districts" 1000's if not 10's of 1000's accept Lions arch Dis 1 as a "Trade" District.. Have a distrct below or above the rest that people go to trade, I know I dont go into lions arch or Kamadam dis 1 unless I want to buy something or sell something.. and most people who aren't selling go there only to buy.

Or what about a place where we can sell things? like an OFFICAL guild wars auction website (Much like offical wiki) or perhaps a place ingame you can sell items? like a store or something where you can place items for people to look at to sell.

Support is slow, they are "Looking" into the matter.

If anyone cares, or not ill post if it gets resloved by support or if I have to wait the full 62 hours left.

its not a big deal, I got work this week, i just kinda looking foward to playing GW when I get home at night.

Well, there's a difference between repeating "LFG for mission" once every few seconds, and going something like;..

Dude1: LFG for mission
Dude1: LFG for mission
Dude1: LFG for mission
Dude2: Need 1 more for xyz quest

It's annoying because you are "washing" away what other people are saying. Our chat windows only show so many lines, and by spamming your line 6 times over in the course of a couple of seconds means you are virtually silencing everyone else.

I'm not waving my finger directly at you, here. I just wanted to point out how "spamming lfg" in the sense of repeating it every now and then, and really spamming it can be two different things.

Well I take two views on this...

1) Your guilty and this is another post winging post, because you got caught and you think its unfair. In which case.... sorry but grow up.

2) Your not guilty and its a mistake, and im certain Anet will get around to fixing it. They cant get it right everytime, and their bound to make mistakes.

Either way, it shows that Anet is indeed cracking down on spamming and trying their best to catch people! Whether it be the right people or not, atleast it shows their doing their jobs!

as I also PMed you about, could we get some easy in-game method to report? exiting guildwars and composing an email or something just isn't worth it when the spammers will be back after a couple days...

Miral, i agree, an ingame reporting feature would as ive said before be much more effective. Im sure many more people would use it.

Just a wee tip fwiw - i run GW in window mode (not maximised) which allows me to easily Alt-Tab to Firefox browser which i keep open and i have the report page open in one of my tabs. That way i can make a report quicker and am more likely to spend the time doing it. Ingame would be a lot better.

edit - eek Miral you are the double posting king.. you know you can edit ... re your 2nd post - yep.. and i hate it when someone spams like your example and i finally ask them to please use trade chat or stop spamming... and what happens.... then spam even more quickly :s

If we all keep an anti spaming profile..ie keep askin people not to do it, eventually slowly, it will become clear that its no longer going to be tolerated.

yea the stupid button that lets you quote multiple posts doesn't work for me for some reason, and I'm used to boards that actually have features that automatically append new posts if theres no replies lol
